foiThe Federal Ministry of Transport has officially inaugurated its Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) implementation committee with a charge to adhere strictly to guidelines governing the compliance with the Act.
While inaugurating the Committee in the conference room of the Ministry, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Engineer Nebolisa Emodi said that following the passage into law of the Act, it has become imperative on all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to set up its own implementation committees.

He enjoined the members to understand that regardless of the FOI Act, there is still need to ensure confidentiality in Government business especially when requests are not properly routed.

Engineer Emodi also enjoined the committee to always endeavour to respond timely to genuine requests from members of the public. He also urged the members of the committee to be fully abreast with the Act to ensure full understanding of their responsibilities.

In his remarks, Dr Viashima Iorwuese, who stood in for the chairman, said that the intentions of the Government are clear on the implementation of the Act and promised that the committee will carry out the assignment assiduously.
